The Beauty of Wildflowers

Wildflowers are some of the most glorious flowers that nature has to offer. From Black-Eyed Susan’s hardily found in many gardens, to the wild Lupins blowing in the wind along the highways in the Northeast, wildflowers are a simple enjoyment. Best of all, they pop up wherever desired and don’t necessarily require any care from us.

Wildflowers you wish to have in your own gardens can be sown directly into any area of your choice without covering them up with soil. They prefer to be put where you have prepared the soil, but even in the grass, wildflowers will grow. Don’t be surprised if in the future, they pop up in a new location. When you go to your local garden center to pick out seeds, pick out a pack that has a mixture in it. Make sure the mixture has plenty of different varieties that bloom throughout different times of your season. Also, pay attention as to whether the seeds will come back from year to year or will need to be reseeded each season. Make note that seeds that come back from year to year most likely will not bloom within the first season. Weeding your wildflower garden can be a challenge with deciphering weeds from flowers, and isn’t always necessary to do. Sometimes the flowing grass amongst the wildflowers gives them a more rustic and natural appearance.

When you think about your gardening for the upcoming season, why not try a pack or two of wildflowers? You just might be pleasantly surprised by the color spectacular.
