The beautiful flamingos, just look at this picture. Even though this was taken with an older camera this is still a good photo. Look at the one that is standing with its long neck stretched down to the water and his beak in the water. The color of these birds make them an ideal bird to watch. The flamingos have very long legs so they can go in much deeper water to look for food. The flamingo have webbed feet which helps them stand in mud that is soft. Like any other bird, the flamingo breathes air and while they feed under water they hold there breath. When they rest they can either sit down with their legs tucked under them or they can rest standing on one leg. The flamingos frequently stand on one foot, there other foot stays warmer and conserves body heat. They stand on one leg both in warmer climates and cooler climates. When the flamingo flies, it takes a few steps and then starts to flap it wings and then lifts into the air. When it lands it does the reverse. It lands and then runs for a few steps. When the flamingo flies it's head and neck are stretched out in front and it's legs stretched out behind itself. They can reach a speed while flying of 31 -37 mph. These are a beautiful bird and such a color makes them even more interesting. Have you ever seen these birds up close. They are quite breath taking when you can see a flock of them standing together. |
