Roses

This was one of the roses that was in my rose garden. I always thought this was a beautiful color.

The 3 most important things for roses are light water and fertilizer. The most harmful bugs for your roses are Aphids, Frog Hoppers, Leaf Cutter Bees, Leaf Hoppers, Cane Borers, Gall Wasps, Rose Maggots, Rose Midge, Sawflies, Weevils just to name quite a few. Other pests are Spider Mites, Nematodes, Slugs, and snails. Then you have the beneficial bugs that will help you with some of the bad bugs. The lady bug beetles, lace wings, Praying Mantis, bees and wasps, earthworms, birds in the garden. Fungi is bad for roses and cause terrible trouble for you and your roses. Roses need water, so if you are having a dry spell, water those roses, they need plenty of water. Roses love sun and not a lot of shade. Roses should have as much as 5 full hours of sunshine a day, and do not overcrowd the roses either. To much water and bad drainage can kill roses with fungus, and rotting of the roots. Raised beds and a lot of organic matter can solve this problem for you. So keep your eyes open if you have poor drainage. You have to watch out for the deer that like to munch on roses, and even little bunnies , gophers. These are just a few things you need to watch for, go on the Internet or in your rose books to see what you will need to do for your roses if you see any of these signs of disease with your roses. There are a lot of different roses out there, T roses, climbing roses, rugosa, floribundas and lots of others. You should be able to find a few you would like to try.

Beautiful pink hues - my favorte flower color! We recently planted a 'knock-out'rose variety in a raised bed so we appreciated your reference to raised-bed planting for roses. Keep up those garden/flower postings.
