Cockatiels are a beautiful bird. They come in white and gray. They love human companionship and some can be taught some words, although the two I have had only whistled. But I don't mind because it's a pretty whistle and he does different variations. Just like a mockingbird can do a lot of different whistles even to sound like other birds, these Cockatiels have variations in their whistles as well. Very pretty I think.
They love toys to play with, and they like to look at themselves in mirrors. If they don't have companionship of the human kind they can get stressed and start picking out their feathers. Ours does get a lot of attention and we let him out of his cage when we are in the room and he can sit or whatever. But I have noticed that with our Doves in the house fairly close to him, they talk too, and he seems quite content to have bird buddies.
As you can see in the picture of Buddy, that is his name he was quite enjoying Christmas morning, being underneath the Christmas tree. He was really enjoying walking around underneath. When he's in his cage and we light up the tree he loves it he looks out his cage and he just looks at the tree. He must enjoy something or he wouldn't look that way. |
