Lilypads

Here is a favorite of ours at Longwood Gardens. The lilypad ponds are so magnificent and so beautiful. The first Lilypad in my photograph is a huge one with the sides turned up, these really catch my eye and my heart, I love these big ones. If you look at them close and see all the intricate patterns they have on them it is simply amazing. The second picture I have is of the big ones and the smaller lilypads, and some flowers that are in bloom. Very beautiful and relaxing just to sit and look at them. Something about these plants keep me coming back each time we visit Longwood Gardens. The third picture is of different lilypads and in the background you can see some of the plantings that they have planted around the lily pond. I just loved being able to have caught some of the background flowers in with the lilies. I have some more to post in a later post of more lily flowers. I hope you have enjoyed these pictures as much as I have enjoyed seeing them again this year and taking pictures of them. If your in the area and have not yet visited these gardens you simply must take the time to do so. Maybe on a day when they will have fireworks as well at night, as we had done the one year.

These photos are wonderful and appear so refreshing in this summer heat. You captured the essence of the pond so well! I look forward to future postings! I recently read that a previous superintendent, Mr. Pring, from Missouri Botanical Garden lent asssitance to Longwood Gardens in the development of a cross between certain water lilies that are now termed the 'Longwood Hybrid'. Now they are some of them at Missouri Botanical Garden and we, hopefully, are off to seeing them in August, their prime viewing time here. :)
